A Masterclass In Carbon And Boost: The 1990 Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer DLS Turbo

There are custom cars, and then there is the work of Singer Vehicle Design. At The Coolector, we spend an inordinate amount of time pouring over bespoke automotive creations, but every so often, a machine emerges that completely recalibrates our understanding of automotive perfection.

Enter “The Sepang Commission,” a breathtaking 1990 Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer DLS Turbo. Freshly restored and currently offered through RM Sotheby’s, this astonishing vehicle represents the absolute pinnacle of contemporary Porsche customization, offering an incredibly rare opportunity to bypass the legendary Singer waiting list and acquire a modern masterpiece.

Like all of Singer’s masterful creations, this specific build began its life as a humble 964-generation Porsche 911. From there, it was shipped to Singer’s UK facilities, where it was meticulously disassembled and stripped down to its bare steel monocoque.

The chassis was then rigorously assessed and strengthened to handle a monumental increase in performance. Inspired by the dominant Porsche 934/5 endurance racers of the late 1970s, the DLS Turbo Services programme is Singer’s most ambitious undertaking to date, blending their obsessive lightweight engineering with the brutal, intoxicating power of forced induction.

Sitting at the heart of The Sepang Commission is an absolute monster of a powerplant. The original M64 3.6-litre flat-six engine has been expanded to 3.8 litres and fitted with water-cooled cylinder heads, four valves per cylinder, air-to-water intercooling, and twin turbochargers equipped with electronic wastegates.

The result is a staggering 710 bhp and 750Nm of torque. Yet, unlike most heavily turbocharged engines that run out of breath at the top end, this bespoke marvel retains the ability to scream all the way to a spine-tingling 9,000 rpm redline.

Wrapping that mechanical masterpiece is a sensational carbon fibre body that was painstakingly sculpted using computational fluid dynamics to optimise aerodynamic grip.

Finished in a stunning, paint-to-sample Wolf Blue, the exterior is accented by visible carbon fibre elements that have been uniquely tinted dark blue to perfectly complement the primary paintwork.

What truly sets The Sepang Commission apart, however, is its modular aerodynamics. The original owner specified the car with both the aggressive, high-downforce track-focused bodywork—complete with a massive rear wing and a pronounced front fascia—as well as the sleeker, road-focused configuration featuring a classic ducktail spoiler.

Both setups are included, safely stored in bespoke flight cases, allowing the new owner to completely swap the car’s aerodynamic profile at will.

The fanatical attention to detail continues into the cabin, which operates under Singer’s famous motto: “Everything is Important.” The interior is trimmed in luxurious Bone leather, providing a brilliant contrast to the dark blue-tinted gloss carbon fibre and champagne anodised brightwork that unifies the aesthetic.

The touring seats feature perforated Bone Alcantara centres, with the model designation “DLST” elegantly embossed into the headrests. It is a cabin that perfectly balances stripped-back motorsport intent with unparalleled grand touring luxury, right down to the magnesium turbofan wheels and solid brass rear decklid badging.

Limited to just 99 restorations globally, the DLS Turbo represents the wildest and most visually arresting variant of the type-964 ever conceived. With an estimated value of £2.5m+, The Sepang Commission is offered fresh from its restoration, bearing only the break-in mileage carefully conducted by Singer’s own test drivers before delivery.

It is a jaw-dropping, no-expense-spared work of automotive art that is ready to dominate both the concourse lawn and the racetrack.
