Here at The Coolector, we spend an inordinate amount of time marveling at high-end automotive restomods, but it is remarkably rare to find a build with as much soul and deeply ingrained family history as the latest masterpiece from Jonathan Ward and his team. Since 2005, ICON 4×4 has been the undisputed king of breathing spectacular new life into celebrated vintage designs.

Their newest Old School creation, the magnificent ICON 4×4 1968 Custom Bronco, is a profound love letter to a family’s unflappable, mountain-climbing billygoat.

Originally acquired in 1972 and used for decades to traverse the steep, rocky trails of the Sierra Nevadas, this specific donor truck has been the absolute heartbeat of family vacations for the client, Elizabeth Jarvis-Shean.

Instead of merely restoring a classic, Ward has meticulously reimagined this memory-laden workhorse to ensure it continues to blaze paths deep into the forest for generations to come.

The visual presence of this resurrected titan is nothing short of breathtaking. It completely eschews the overly modern, clinical look of many contemporary builds in favor of a wonderfully nostalgic, exuberant factory Holly Green finish.

This rich, heritage shade is crisply offset by a bright Wimbledon White top, matching front and rear bumpers, and a set of exclusive forged aluminum 18-inch wheels wrapped in highly capable Toyo Open Country AT tires. But beneath that flawless exterior lies a ruggedness built for serious abuse.

The entire body is powder-coated, painted, clear-coated, and thoroughly fortified with a tough-as-nails polyurea coating spanning the interior floor and the entire underbody.

It is a level of uncompromising protection well-suited for a truck that famously survived being tipped over on a treacherous mountain trail by the client’s grandfather—a legendary family incident that hilariously involved a shattered jar of captured snakes in the back seat.

Stepping inside the cabin reveals an extraordinary dedication to bespoke craftsmanship and deeply personal storytelling. To honor the client’s Scottish heritage, Ward imported rich, highly durable tartans handwoven by Lochcarron of Scotland, incorporating the Campbell family name directly into the fabric.

This stunning textile is beautifully complemented by custom-dyed stamped leather from Garrett Leather Transportation, a neutral Alcantara headliner, and hard-wearing square weave floor mats.

Taking the personalization even further, Ward specially handcrafted a bespoke driving jacket using the matching Campbell Tartan through his Campfire Coats atelier.

Lined with luxurious Italian Loro Piana silk and finished with centuries-old antique bone buttons sourced from London’s historic Taylor’s Buttons, the jacket perfectly mirrors the truck’s flawless blend of vintage Western style and modern realization.

Of course, an ICON build is never just about impeccable aesthetics; the underlying mechanical engineering is genuinely world-class. Under the hood lies a monstrous 440-horsepower 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, perfectly mated to a super-sharp Raptor 10-speed automatic transmission and an Atlas 2.0T on-the-fly two-speed transfer case.

The bespoke chassis features custom Currie Industry axles with ARB front and rear lockers, supported by an exclusively balanced KW Rieger suspension system and stopped by an ICON-proprietary Brembo sport brake setup.

Despite its rugged off-road pedigree, the cabin is discreetly packed with state-of-the-art modern comforts, including a hidden Pioneer NEX hi-fi audio system, front seat heat blankets, and a Vintage Air Gen 5 climate control system.

With commissions for builds of this caliber starting at $225,000, this remarkable vehicle represents the absolute pinnacle of automotive restoration, flawlessly proving that true craftsmanship is about honoring the past while confidently driving into the future.
