Royal Hue: Exploring the Farer Lissom Lindley Watch

Farer has carved out a distinct identity in the watch world by consistently delivering timepieces that are visually arresting, built to a high standard, and infused with compelling stories. They possess a rare ability to blend vibrant colour palettes with serious Swiss watchmaking, creating pieces that resonate with enthusiasts. The Farer Lissom Lindley watch is a prime example of this unique approach, embodying what the brand describes as the “epitome of modern sophistication”—a watch that combines a remarkably slim profile with a distinctive design and an exceptionally high level of finishing.

The inspiration behind the Lindley is drawn from the life and work of John Lindley, a celebrated English botanist, gardener, and orchidologist. Lindley dedicated his career to advancing botany into the modern natural science it is today, meticulously documenting and illustrating plants in various folios and becoming a key figure within the Horticultural Society of London (later the Royal Horticultural Society). His significant contributions to the field led the Royal Horticultural Society to name Lindley Hall after him, a fitting tribute to his impact. This connection to scientific exploration and significant contribution adds a layer of intellectual depth to the timepiece.

Visually, the Lindley is built around the colour purple, a shade long associated with royalty and distinction for millennia. The dial features a rich purple satin texture, offering a depth of colour that is more distinct than classic monochrome options without venturing into overt flamboyance. Legibility, however, is not sacrificed; crisp white hands and fine 3d moulded Lumicast numerals stand out clearly against the purple backdrop. Both hands and numerals utilise the latest and brightest Grade X2 Super-LumiNova, ensuring excellent low-light performance.

Cutting through the rich purple is a sunken powder blue sub-seconds dial, complemented by a light pink seconds hand – a striking blend of colours that is both unique and harmonious. This light pink detailing is subtly echoed in both the grey minute tracks framing the numerals, with the outer minute track being sunken to add a further sense of depth and dimension to the dial’s layout. The result is a dial that is bold enough to make a confident statement while remaining refined.

Protecting this beautifully executed dial is a scratch-resistant flat sapphire crystal, treated with two layers of anti-reflective coating on either side for optimal clarity. The dial and movement are housed within an incredibly svelte 38mm case, crafted from robust 316L marine-grade stainless steel. The dimensions are particularly noteworthy for their slimness, measuring just 7.95mm in thickness, with a practical 42.8mm lug-to-lug length and a 20mm lug width. The case finish is executed to the highest possible standard – Grade A – a level of finishing typically only seen on the most premium Swiss watches, highlighting the exceptional quality inherent in every element of the watch. The curved lugs are thoughtfully designed to ensure the watch hugs the wrist perfectly, enhancing its sleek profile and comfort.

Powering the Lindley is the Swiss-made La Joux-Perret D100 calibre. This manual wind movement is finished to LJP’s highest soigné standard, representing a high-end Swiss movement that provides significant horological substance and a tactile connection to the timepiece through daily winding. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), contains 18 jewels, and offers approximately 50 hours of power reserve. The watch features a push/pull stainless steel crown with Farer’s signature solid bronze cap insert and comes paired with a suede leather strap secured by a 316L stainless steel buckle. With 50m water resistance (5ATM), it is built for robust everyday wear.

All these elements combine to make the Farer Lissom Lindley Watch a true expression of modern sophistication. Its unique colour palette, meticulously finished dial with its subtle depth, remarkably svelte ‘Grade A’ finished case, and a high-end Swiss manual wind movement make it a standout piece. Available at a price point of £1150, it’s a watch that celebrates a legacy of scientific contribution while offering a stunningly elegant and well-engineered timepiece for those who appreciate colour, design, and genuine watchmaking quality.
