For decades, the concept of a truly general-purpose humanoid robot has been the stuff of science fiction—a tantalising glimpse into a future that always seemed just over the horizon.
We’ve seen countless prototypes in labs, impressive but often clumsy machines tethered by wires and limited by their programming. Well, the chaps at Figure are here to tell you that the horizon is much closer than you think.

Today, they’ve pulled the curtain back on the Figure 03, their third-generation humanoid, and it represents a quantum leap from experimental prototype to a scalable, deployable product designed for our homes, workplaces, and the world at large. This isn’t just another robot; it’s the physical embodiment of a next-generation AI, and it’s poised to change everything.

At the very core of Figure 03’s existence is a single, ambitious goal: to serve as the vessel for Helix, the company’s proprietary vision-language-action AI. There’s no path to a useful humanoid without an intelligent brain, and every aspect of Figure 03 has been redesigned from the ground up to enable this.

The robot introduces a next-generation sensory suite, headlined by a new camera architecture that is nothing short of breathtaking. It delivers double the frame rate and a quarter of the latency of its predecessor, with a 60% wider field of view per camera.

In layman’s terms, its perception of the world is denser, faster, and more stable, allowing it to navigate and manipulate objects in cluttered, complex spaces like a typical home with unprecedented intelligence. For tasks requiring close-up dexterity, like reaching into a cabinet, each hand now integrates an embedded palm camera, giving Helix constant visual feedback even when its main cameras are occluded.

Where most robots fail, however, is in the sense of touch. Figure 03 addresses this with a major leap in compliant and tactile hand design. After finding existing market options inadequate, the team developed its own first-generation tactile sensor guided by a relentless pursuit of durability and high-fidelity sensing.

The results are frankly astonishing. Each softer, more adaptive fingertip can detect forces as small as three grams of pressure—sensitive enough to register the weight of a single paperclip. This incredible precision allows the Helix AI to distinguish between a secure grip and an impending slip in real-time, enabling the fine-grained control needed to handle fragile or irregularly shaped objects with a human-like touch.

Crucially, for a robot designed to operate alongside people, Figure 03 introduces a raft of improvements focused on safety and usability. Gone are the hard, machined parts of typical robots, replaced by strategically placed multi-density foam and soft, washable textiles to protect against pinch points.

It’s also 9% lighter and significantly less bulky than its predecessor, making it more nimble in household spaces. The battery system pushes the bounds of safety, achieving UN38.3 certification through multiple layers of protection.

In a stroke of design genius, Figure 03 is entirely wire-free, capable of wireless inductive charging by simply stepping onto a 2kW stand in its feet, allowing it to autonomously dock and recharge throughout the day. An upgraded audio system with a more powerful speaker and repositioned microphone also allows for more natural, real-time speech.

The Figure 03 Humanoid Robot is an unprecedented advancement. By uniting state-of-the-art perception and tactile intelligence with a design that is safe, approachable, and ready for mass manufacturing, Figure has established the foundation for a future where robots don’t just perform rote tasks, but learn, adapt, and work alongside us, transforming how we live and work for generations to come.
