In a world of increasingly synthetic and disposable footwear, Turriff Footwear emerges with a refreshingly grounded philosophy: to create truly useful shoes that prioritise rugged comfort, ease, and uninhibited movement. Their ethos isn’t about fleeting trends, but about crafting enduring footwear that allows you to escape the confines of “normal” shoes and embrace the freedom of both daily life and the great outdoors. The concept is simple: build good shoes that fit exceptionally well and perform reliably across a diverse spectrum of settings, terrains, climates, and conditions. Turriff shoes are designed to be versatile, helping you shed excess and move seamlessly through an active outdoor life, whether navigating forest trails or your urban routines.

At the heart of Turriff’s design ethos lies foot function. Their aim was to create footwear where the foot dictates the form, resulting in a comfort-fit last that accommodates almost every foot type. Eschewing modern, often less durable construction methods, Turriff Shoes are made using traditional shoemaking techniques, allowing for easy repair and resoling, ensuring your investment can accompany you for years to come.

The uppers are exclusively crafted from premium leather, a naturally durable, flexible, and breathable material that moulds to your foot over time, acting like a second skin and providing natural weather resistance without the need for synthetic waterproof liners, which often trap heat and moisture and degrade more quickly. The only synthetic components are the slim 6mm EVA midsole, providing a balance of protection and ground feel, and the high-performance rubber outsole.

Drawing inspiration from a minimal, barefoot approach, the Turriff Trail Shoes are designed to be flexible, featuring a wide forefoot that allows your feet to move naturally and spread out, enhancing both comfort and stability. While those accustomed to synthetic, glued barefoot shoes might initially find these all-leather constructions a touch stiffer, this is a deliberate aspect of their easily repairable Blake rapid and forefoot Stitchdown construction. Fear not, however, as with a little wear, the fibres of the vegetable-tanned leather insole, midsole, and heel stiffener soften, allowing the shoes to become increasingly flexible, adapting perfectly to the natural movement of your foot.

The vision behind Turriff Footwear comes from the expertise of shoemaker and footwear designer Andrew Turriff, a versatile creator with a unique blend of experience in traditional bootmaking, athletic footwear, and orthopaedic shoemaking. This diverse knowledge has guided him in the creation of truly foot-functional outdoor shoes.

Two distinct versions of the Turriff Trail Shoes, both priced at $380, are available: the C-01 and the C-02 Anatomical Outdoor Trail Shoes. Both are hand-crafted on a zero heel drop anatomical comfort fit last, ensuring maximum toe room and optimal foot function. They feature premium all-leather uppers sourced from renowned English tanners Charles F. Stead, offering breathability, durability, and natural weather resistance. Their unique Blake rapid and forefoot Stitchdown construction makes them easily recraftable and resolable. Inside, you’ll find an extra-lightweight, vegetable-tanned leather insole, midsole, and heel stiffener, all designed with flexibility and natural movement in mind. A full premium kip leather lining and a gusseted tongue provide “old-fashioned” weather-proofing, while military-spec elastic shock cord lacing ensures a secure and adjustable fit.

The unstructured toe box allows for natural toe splay, and the slim 6mm EVA midsole offers a comfortable balance between protection and ground feel. Both models utilise the Vibram Megalug #7132 outsole, known for its excellent grip on both wet and dry terrains, while maintaining flexibility and durability. Designed in Canada and handmade in El Salvador, experience footwear that truly understands your feet and the adventures you undertake.
